Minor version 2.5 - The tactical update
Welcome to my first dev log!
This is a minor release, consisting mostly of bug fixes and prep for the campaign mode update.
For this one, i have focussed on making the actual mission gameplay more dynamic and fun by improving on mob behaviours and adding more tools and guns for the player to use. Combat should now be no longer non-stop fighting room by room, but enemies should also be more threatening when they appear. For details, check the changelog below.
On a personal note, I too, sadly, have been struck with the bane of all hobbyist game devs: A full-time job. Nonetheless, I aim to stick to a roughly three-monthly release schedule. Development will continue in the direction of adding content and gameplay features, now that most of the game's "bones" are in place. The next stop will either be version 0.3 or another content update.
Major Changes
Monster encounter logic
Monsters are no longer just randomly loitering around the ship. They are now organized into groups of dwellers and roamers, the latter of which hunt around the ship for points of interest. This enables players to both avoid monsters by utilizing empty sections throughout the ship, but also creates situations where monsters can suddenly barge into a room.
Travel menu
The travel menu between missions has been expanded. In addition to buying items from the supply ship, the marshall can now store, modify and repair their equipment, and construct some simple items.
Elite enemies
Elite enemies have been added to the existing enemy factions, and serve as a target for the hunt mission.
Loot
Loot has been added to both areas around the ship and humanoid enemies. Some of it is scrap which is usable for crafting, some is useable equipment. The player can also break down environmental objects for crafting purposes.
New Types of Gear
Scanners can help you track the movements on enemies through walls, aiding with evasion.
Cannons are super-heavy weapons which can only be wielded with a specialized suit.
